Appalachian Ski Mountain
Since 1962, Appalachian Ski Mountain has
been a favorite ski area among locals and
visitors to the area. Located in Blowing
Rock, Appalachian Ski Mountain was the first
North Carolina ski area to open in the High
Country and boasts a large
mountain for skiing of all types, two
impressive snowboarding terrain parks, and a
nice outdoor ice skating rink.
Appalachian Ski Mountain is also home to the
oldest and best known ski school in the
South, the French Swiss Ski College. Since
its opening, the school has taught over one
million skiers and snowboarders the joy of
the various snow sports.
Each winter, Appalachian Ski Mountain opens
its ten slopes and terrain parks. Visitors and residents usually get to enjoy
the mountain from mid-November to April. In
addition to the skiing at Appalachian Ski
Mountain, there are also three other NC ski
areas in the High Country. Residents can
enjoy skiing in the winter at the other
resorts located in Banner Elk. Hawksnest Ski
Resort, Sugar Mountain, and Beech Mountain
ski resort are all within a short drive from
Blowing Rock, NC and provide excellent ski
conditions as well.
